This handmade Michael Ritchie acoustic (2003) is a stunning example of his exceptional craftsmanship and talent for guitar making. The shape of the guitar is unique to Ritchie's style and features an almost folk like sized body but with a wider lower bout giving the guitar warmth and resonance across the whole frequency range of the instrument. The tone woods used in construction include a solid Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides and a Brazillian Rosewood fingerboard, bridge and stunning headstock veneer!! - all of which have aged nicely that give the guitar a balanced yet dynamic tone range. The 12th fret body join also contributes to the beautiful sustain the instrument has. Other features of the guitar include handmade rope purfling, dot abalone fingerboard inlays, bone nut and saddle, handmade decorative soundhole rosette and gold Gotoh machine heads. His attention to detail is something to behold in the rosette and the purfling! It also comes along with the Hiscox hardcase and has been recently restrung with D'Addario 12's in our workshop.

Here's what Michael Ritchie has to say about himself - " The inspiration behind my guitar making is as old if not older than guitar making itself. I have always had a love for the instrument and in particular the nylon string with its softer more complex and alluring tone. As a guitar maker I am drawn to the origins of this instrument and the methods of construction employed within its tradition.

I spent a year and a half studying these methods in the small artisan workshops of Granada in Southern Spain. The guitar workshops oftentimes less than obvious, hidden among the maze of streets and lanes gave their location away by the scent of cedrela odorata mixing with the heat and the fervour that is a city like Granada.

Resourceful, sometimes genius in their invention the poetic style of guitar making I witnessed was to shape the way I would approach guitar making from then on."
