About Us
|
Strung Out Guitars was established by Guitar Making College buddies Louise Carruthers and Paula Russell. The girls met while studying HNC Stringed Instrument Repair in Glasgow under the expert eyes of William C. Kelday and Paul Hyland, two of Scotland's finest Luthiers. After moving to London and completing HND's in Musical Instrument Technology at London Guildhall University under the tuition of English Classical Guitar Maker David Whiteman, both ladies began working as self employed Guitar Technicians and Repairers at Andy's Guitar Centre in London's prestigious Denmark Street alongside ex-Led Zeppelin Guitar Tech and Guitar Guru, Tim Marten. In 2003 Louise and Paula established Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow, an independently run Guitar Shop and Guitar Repair Workshop specialising in Second Hand and Vintage Guitars and Amps and of course- Guitar Repairs! Situated in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City, the shop itself is nestled into a 100 year old railway arch in Kings Court. The Guitar Repair Workshop is still the very heart of our business. We have had the pleasure to work for literally thousands of musicians over the years and every day brings something new. We love guitars and believe every guitar should be set up to play like a dream, regardless of Make, Model or Price. If you love guitars, then you have come to the right place! After several years at university studying Music, Stringed Instrument Repair and Musical Instrument Technology, Louise worked in London's historic Denmark Street as a Guitar Maker and Repairer in Andy's Guitar Centre and Workshop, before coming home to Scotland to establish Strung Out Guitars in 2003.
With a weak spot for little shiny effects pedals, vintage guitars and basses, Vari is a self confessed guitar geek and a regular mine of information. As well as advising customers on finding the guitar of their dreams, Vari also works in the Guitar Repair Workshop with Louise, keeping all of our guitars and yours playing like a dream!
John has been with us at Strung Out Guitars for 5 years, but he has been making and repairing guitars and amps for more than 20. As well as being a technical whizz, he is also pretty nifty at playing guitar and bass. Its mostly John's fault that the team here have such an obsession with stompboxes, but hey, we wouldn't have it any other way!
